Audio up button does not work, who is affected? fix?

I wanted to check how many people had this problem, and if someone has found a fix.

If you press FN+(audio up) it doesn't work. The command connected to this combination is: amixer set Master 5+ this did not work for me so I changed it to amixer -q set Master 5+. This worked untill I rebooted the system. Audio down amixer set Master 5- works perfectly, so does mute.

Who is affected?
Any fix?

running Jollicloud and Kuki Linux 2.8 final on a AAO ZG5 120gb HD, 1gb ram (labeled by shop as AAO 150 Ab)

Unfortunately, I have the same results with it as you do. I'm working on a solution for it.

Im affected, have been so from version 1.7.

Reason for problem in rc1.7 and rc1.8 is slightly different than with Kuki Linux 2.8. Kuki Linux 2.8 has the correct code/settings. However, this is actually a problem with xfce 4.6.1. We are working to resolve it, though.

I may have found a workaround for this. Go to Settings>Keyboard>Layout and tick Use System Defaults. Reboot and see if it works.

Incidentally this also works if you need to get xmodmap working - xfce seems to have a bug where its own keyboard settings overrides x.

Let me know if this helps!

(I hate it when you find that your problem is caused by a bug, I've been googling for the last few hours trying to get xmodmap to work and it turns out all I needed to do was untick a box! Grr!)

Nope, just removes the shortcuts completely so I no longer have mute or audio down. How can I restore to original?

I looked up the help for amixer command. Put my shortcuts back. Works fine now, don't know if it will after a reboot though

I had the same problem.

my workaround for this.

remove these lines in in /etc/rc.local:

/usr/bin/setkeycodes e025 130
/usr/bin/setkeycodes e026 131
/usr/bin/setkeycodes e027 132
/usr/bin/setkeycodes e029 122
/usr/bin/setkeycodes e071 134
/usr/bin/setkeycodes e072 135

and remove ~/.Xmodmap and ~/.xinitrc

and just use the audio shortcuts in Settings>Keyboard>Layout

Works fine after a reboot..

can confirm that works, although I just commented out all the lines in Xmodmap rather than removing the file..

Only thing is my suspend button (Fn-F4) isn't working (maybe after I tried setting the shortcuts back to defaults and lost them) can anyone tell me how to add this shortcut back (i.e. whats the command to set the shortcut too?)

To get the Suspend button working you need to set it to do something in the Power Manager Settings: Shortcuts>Sleep Button.

I'm not sure why clicking System Default in keyboard settings got rid of all your shortcuts - it certainly didn't for me! Are you sure you clicked the correct tick box (on the third tab not the second).

I did like JK & tcrock: commented out all relevant entries in the 3 files (/etc/rc.local, ~/.Xmodmap and ~/.xinitrc), and I can confirm that everything works now. Thanks guys!

Enjoying Kuki Linux 2.8 on an AAO ZG5 (150-Bb), 160GB HD, 1GB ram and a bulky 9-cell 6.6Ah battery. Hostname: 'R2-D2'.
